Zusammenfassung
Patellofemorale Schmerzen gehören zu den häufigsten Beschwerdebildern im orthopädischen Patientengut. Allerdings verbirgt sich dahinter kein einheitliches Krankheitsbild, sondern es gibt eine ganze Reihe von Diagnosen und Umständen, die zu diesen Schmerzen führen können. Trotz vieler Fortschritte im Verständnis der Pathologie des Patellofemoralgelenks gibt es aber noch viele offene Fragen zur Schmerzentstehung. Erschwerend kommt die Tatsache hinzu, dass bei nahezu identischen morphologischen oder pathologischen Veränderungen manche Individuen Schmerzen haben und andere nicht. Diese Tatsache hat Scott Dye veranlasst vom„schwarzen Loch“ der Orthopädie zu sprechen, in Anlehnung an die schwarzen Löcher im Weltall, die der Wissenschaft ebenfalls noch viele Rätsel aufgeben.
