Zusammenfassung

Degenerativen und traumatischen Knorpeldefekten steht gleichermaßen die Unfähigkeit des hyalinen adulten Gelenkknorpels gegenüber, in wesentlichem Umfang kompensatorisches Knorpelwachstum oder Knorpelmatrixsynthese zu zeigen. Weder kann adulter Knorpel defektfüllend wachsen noch scheint er in der osteoarthrotischen Knorpeldegeneration in der Lage zu sein, partiell oder ganz destruierte Matrixanteile suffizient zu ersetzen.
