PET in head and neck tumors

  • Chapter
PET in Clinical Oncology

Abstract

Tumors of the head and neck region comprise a heterogeneous group of neoplastic processes. Due to the complicated anatomical situation, head and neck tumors exhibit characteristic epidemiological, pathological and therapeutic features. Despite these differences, there are certain common properties concerning the anatomy of the regional drainage of lymph nodes and lymph vessels of the head and neck, the pathology, staging and screening, as well as pertaining therapeutic approaches. As a result, the head and neck have been subdivided into the following regions: nasal cavity, paranasal sinus, nasopharynx, oral cavity, oropharynx, hypopharynx and larynx.
