Abstract
This chapter is intended to create a bridge between the traditional and newer models presented and the agenda for the following chapters and future research. All the preceding chapters have shown thatspaceis an important — although complex - dimension into which mobility is embedded. The recognition of the importance of the spatial dimension is certainly rising in international economics: “It should not… be hard to convince economists that economic geography… is both an interesting and an important subject.” (Fujita et al. 1999: 1) Moreover, we have also seen that the phenomenon of mobility is even more complex as it is guided by different causalities and channels. (Im-)mobility may be related to activities on markets, but other institutional frameworks e. g. multinational firms as well.
