Zusammenfassung

Die perkutane transluminale Ballonangioplastie (Ballon-PTA) ist seit ihrer Einführung zu einem anerkannten Verfahren in der Behandlung von Stenosen und Verschlüssen im Bereich der Becken-und Beinarterien geworden. Sie wurde erstmals im Jahre 1964 von Dotter und Judkins ausgeführt [18], aber erst durch die von Grüntzig vorgeschlagene technische Modifikation der Angioplastie populär gemacht [21]. Als lokale Maßnahme zur Dilatation von Stenosen kommt der PTA eine große Bedeutung zu, da sie aufgrund ihrer geringen Invasivität eine attraktive Alternative zur herkömmlichen gefäßchirurgischen Therapie darstellt. Die Ballon-PTA verbessert die Symptomatik der Patienten in aller Regel um 1-2 Fontaine-Stadien und erhöht folgerichtig die Lebensqualität [11, 30].
