Zusammenfassung
Der vorliegende Beitrag zielt auf die Untersuchung der Zusammenhänge zwischen Unternehmensgründungen, etablierten Unternehmen und Innovationsnetzwerken. Ausgehend von konzeptionellen und theoretischen Überlegungen über die Beziehungen zwischen betrieblichen Innovationsaktivitäten und technologischen Möglichkeiten wird der Einfluß der Netzwerkmitgliedschaft (und weiterer Faktoren) auf das Innovationsverhalten von neugegründeten und etablierten Unternehmen empirisch untersucht. Die ökonometrischen Analysen weisen in den untersuchten Modellvarianten durchgehend positive Effekte einer Netzwerkmitgliedschaft auf die Höhe des Innovationsinputs von neugegründeten Unternehmen auf (Sample A). Die Zusammenarbeit mit anderen (etablierten) Netzwerkmitgliedern erweitert bzw. verbessert intern vorhandene Kapazitäten mit stimulierenden Effekten auf die Höhe des betrieblichen Innovationsinputs. Bei der Gruppe der etablierten Unternehmen (Sample B) spielen Netzwerke nicht die herausragende Bedeutung als Innovationsfaktor wie bei neugegründeten Unternehmen. Die Motivation dieser Unternehmen, sich dennoch in Innovationsnetzwerken zu engagieren, liegt darin begründet, daß über die Netzwerkmitgliedschaft kostensenkende und qualitätsverbessernde Innovationen entwickelt werden, was die eigene Marktposition verbessert und zu Umsatzsteigerungen führt. Bei der Betrachtung aller innovativen Unternehmen auf der Basis eines integrierten Datensatzes (Sample C) finden sich statistisch hoch signifikante Belege dafür, daß die Netzwerkmitgliedschaft von neugegründeten Unternehmen positive Auswirkungen auf die Innovationsaktivitäten der (anderen) Netzwerkmitglieder hat. Dies unterstreicht den hohen Stellenwert von ’start ups’ für Innovationsnetzwerke.
