Zusammenfassung
Die perkutane transpedikuläre Vertebroplastik mit Polymethylmetacrylat-Zement PMMA wurde erstmals 1987 von Galibert und Deramond zur Behandlung von Wirbelkörpern bei destruierenden Hämangiomen beschrieben [5]. In der Folge waren es vor allem Radiologen aus Frankreich, welche diese Technik anwendeten zur Stabilisation osteolytischer Wirbelkörperläsionen [6]. Nach positiven Erfahrungen, insbesondere in Hinblick auf die Schmerzerleichterung, wurde die Indikation zur Vertebroplastik ausgedehnt, zuletzt auch auf die Schmerztherapie bei durch Osteoporose verursachte Wirbelkörperfrakturen [3]. Biomechanische Studien haben in diesen Fällen signifikante Steigerungen sowohl der Belastbarkeit als auch der Steifigkeit von Wirbelkörpern nach Augmentation nachgewiesen [8].
