Zusammenfassung
Calcitonin ist ein physiologisches Peptidhormon das in der Schilddrüse produziert wird, aber auch synthetisch hergestellt werden kann. Es hemmt spezifisch die Osteoklasten und wirkt somit antiresorptiv auf das Knochengewebe. Daneben gibt es Hinweise, dass Calcitonin auf die Osteoblasten wirkt, entweder indirekt über Hemmung der Osteoklasten oder direkt im Sinne einer Stimulation der Knochenneubildung. Ein weiterer interessanter Aspekt des Calcitonins ist der vielfach beschriebene analgetische Effekt.
