Zusammenfassung

Zur kurzfristigen Überbrückung eines myokardialen Pumpversagens wurde das BVS 5000®von Abiomed Inc. konstruiert. Das System wird seit 1992 (FDA-Zulassung) weltweit verwendet. Bereits 1988 erschienen erste Publikationen über einen erfolgreichen Einsatz. Neben der Kreislaufunterstützung des Erwachsenen liegen auch Erfahrungen zur Überbrückung eines Low-output-Syndroms im Kindesalter vor (Einzelfallbericht). Zu beachten ist aber eine für das System geforderte Körperoberfläche von mindestens 1,3 m2. In den USA erfreut sich das System großer Beliebtheit, in Deutschland hat es dagegen bisher noch keine weite Verbreitung gefunden.
