Zusammenfassung
Die Elektrokrampftherapie bei Jugendlichen scheint dieselbe Wirksamkeit und auch ähnliche Nebenwirkungen zu haben wie bei Erwachsenen (Cohen et al. 2000; Strober et al. 1998; Walter et al. 1999). Es existieren jedoch keine kontrollierten prospektiven Studien. In einer Nachuntersuchung mit allerdings nur 10 Patienten fanden Cohen et al. (2000) nach durchschnittlich 3,5 Jahren keine kognitiven Langzeitfolgen. Im Gegensatz zu den USA ist der Einsatz von EKT bei Jugendlichen in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland wie auch in anderen europäischen Ländern sehr selten (Duffett et al. 1999). So haben wir selbst keine Erfahrungen mit dem Einsatz bei Jugendlichen. Man sollte diese Patienten jedoch nicht prinzipiell von einer Behandlung mit der EKT ausschließen, wenn eine entsprechende Behandlungsindikation vorliegt (s. Kapitel 2 Indikationen und Wirksamkeit).
