Zusammenfassung
Die transkranielle Stimulation mit schwachem Gleichstrom (transcranial direct current Stimulation: tDCS) ist ein Verfahren, das bereits in den 60er Jahren des 20. Jahrhunderts im Tier- und Humanexperiment untersucht wurde. In der damaligen Sowjetunion wurde es am Menschen unter dem Namen „Elektroschlaftherapie“ therapeutisch als Antidepressivum eingesetzt. Die Gruppen um Lippold und Redfearn (Lippold u. Redfearn 1964; Redfearn et al. 1964) beschrieben einen antidepressiven Effekt, der in den 70er Jahren auch in den USA untersucht wurde (Dymond et al. 1975). Diese Gruppe wiederum konnte keinen positiven Effekt der transkraniellen Depolarisation auf den Menschen feststellen, sodass diese Therapieform zumindest in der westlichen Psychiatrie keine Verbreitung fand. In den letzten Jahren hat insbesondere die Göttinger Arbeitsgruppe von W. Paulus in der klinischen Neurophysiologie sich dieser Stimulationsform erneut gewidmet und einige interessante Befunde publiziert (Nitsche et al. 2002).
