Zusammenfassung
Die wichtigste Indikation für die Elektrokrampftherapie (EKT) ist ein therapieresistentes schweres depressives Syndrom, weil die EKT hier nach wie vor die wirksamste Behandlungsmaßnahme darstellt (Folkerts 2000). Auch unter unseren eigenen Patienten überwiegen eindeutig solche mit der Diagnose Depression: von 35 mit einer EKT behandelten Patienten im Jahr 2000 waren 26 depressiv, die übrigen schizoaffektiv oder schizophren. Weitere relevante Indikationen für die EKT sind die akute Katatonie im Rahmen einer Schizophrenie und die akute Manie. Daneben bestehen andere, seltenere Indikationen, die am Ende des Kapitels dargestellt sind (Tabelle 2.1).
