Zusammenfassung
In den 30er Jahren machten sich einige Physiologen, die über Perfusionstechniken einzelner Organe arbeiteten, Gedanken zur In-vivo-Perfusion von Herz und Lunge. Nachdem ein Patient an einer fulminanten Lungenembolie verstarb, kam Dr. John Gibbon die Idee eines temporären, künstlichen Ersatzes der Herz-Lungen-Funktion durch eine Maschine.
