Zusammenfassung
Während manche orthopädisch traumatologische Operationsverfahren bereits kurz nach ihrer Einführung allgemeine Akzeptanz und Verbreitung erfahren, gibt es andere die über Jahre im experimentellen Stadium bleiben. Letzteres gilt für die Meniskustransplantation, also den kompletten Ersatz eines verlorengegangenen Meniskus durch ein allogenes Transplantat. Das Verfahren wurde in den 80er Jahren in Deutschland entwickelt (Milachowski et al. 1987). Nach guten Frühresultaten der ersten klinischen Serie waren mittelfristige und Spätresultate enttäuschend. Die Methode wurde dann im Ausland, vor allem in den Vereinigten Staaten, aufgegriffen und wird dort routinemäßig durchgeführt. Ihr kommt mittlerweile klinisch eine Bedeutung zu, die ihr aufgrund vorliegender objektiver Daten nicht zusteht. Dieser Beitrag soll den Stand der Diskussion im Jahr 2001 darstellen.
