Abstract

Abstract. It has been often said that the purpose of computing is insight, not numbers. However, with increases in computing capability, our growing ability to perform detailed simulations and the development of more and more sophisticated scientific instruments, the task of extracting insight from the increasing volume of data becomes increasingly difficult. As the volume of data to be visualized increases, we exceed the limits of current visualization systems to access, process, and display the data.
