Zusammenfassung
Wenngleich die Muttermilch in tolerierbaren Volumina eine bedarfsdeckende Zufuhr von Energie, Eiweiß, Spurenelementen und Vitaminen für das schnell wachsende Frühgeborene nicht gewährleistet, gilt sie doch bis zum heutigen Tag als optimale Basis für die Ernährung dieser Kinder. Ihre einzelnen Bestandteile zeichnen sich im Gegensatz zu kommerziellen Frühgeborenennahrungen durch eine hohe Bioverfügbarkeit aus (George u. DeFrancesca 1989). Die psychomotorischen Entwicklungschancen der mit Muttermilch ernährten Frühgeborenen scheinen besser zu sein als nach künstlicher Ernährung (Lucas et al. 1992).
