Abstract
In the static analysis of the model with a 10% deeper socket, a bicentric pressure distribution was observed with maximal contact stresses at the periphery. The pressure distribution was relatively independent of the direction of the applied force (Figs. 16). With central load application the maxima at the peripheral parts of the joint surface amounted to about 0.9 MPa, whereas the central region between the two contact areas encountered no pressure (Figs. 15a, 16). With oblique load application (22.5° and 45°) the pressure distribution was also bicentric, and it was interesting to note that in this case the load bearing areas were located at exactly the same place as with the central load application (Fig. 16). The size of the contact pressure varied
between 0.5 and 1.0 MPa, depending upon whether the applied force was orientated towards the load bearing area or to the other side of the joint.
