Zusammenfassung

Die Strahlung der Sonne ist Energiequelle für alle meteorologischen und biologischen Prozesse des Systems Erde-Atmosphäre und damit unverzichtbar für irdisches Leben. UV-Strahlung kann jedoch, obwohl ihr Spektralbereich nur wenige Prozent der solaren Energie ausmacht, Schäden an biologischen Zellen sowie photochemische Prozesse (Bd. 1A, Kap. 3.2) hervorrufen. Wegen dieser Wirkungen spielt die UV-Strahlung für die Umwelt eine besondere Rolle.
