Abstract
First, what is a data file? A flow cytometry data file is the compilation of measurements from the acquisition of a single sample on a flow cytometer. A data files standard is essentially a list of rules describing how the computer data file should be organized. When adhered to, the rules yield a defined and uniform computer file structure. The letters ‘FCS’ refer specifically to the Flow Cytometry Standard format, which is a comprehensive data-file structure with a 16 year history of use in flow cytometry.
