Abstract
To write an exhaustive history of Flow Cytometry in this manual is not really necessary. There are many very good texts and articles on the history of flow cytometry, many of them listed in the references of this manual. You can read them as you wish, at your leisure. However, it is a good idea to look at the varied and colorful past of this technology and how it has developed into the tool we use today. A quick look at the historical influences will give you a better idea of what a remarkable rainbow of applications and uses this instrument has had over the almost 3 decades since it was introduced to the world commercially.
