Cell Preparation and Enrichment for FCM Analysis and Cell Sorting

Abstract

Flow cytometry and cell sorting are really tools for answering biological questions. Some of these questions can be answered directly by analyzing cell populations that reside within heterogeneous starting material. This kind of analysis is very powerful, in many cases quick, and does not require cell separation. Good statistics can be generated on as few as several hundred cells even if they represent less than 0.1% of the starting populatiion as long as they define a unique population. Detection and analysis of such a minor population is always much easier than attempting to physically isolate and purify such cells without significant cell loss.
