Abstract
The two adrenal glands are located at the medial and superior aspects of the kidneys and are generally completely surrounded by perirenal fat. Occasionally fusion with the liver or with the renal capsule is encountered. The right adrenal lies posterior to the inferior vena cava, between the right liver lobe and the crus of the diaphragm. The left adrenal lies on the same level as the right, but anteromedial to the left kidney. It is located lateral to the aorta and the left crus of the diaphragm, cranial to the left renal vein.
