CT of Endocrine and Cystic Tumors of the Pancreas

  • Chapter
Spiral CT of the Abdomen

Part of the book series: Medical Radiology ((Med Radiol Diagn Imaging))

Abstract

Computed tomography (CT) is the dominant imaging modality used for the diagnosis and staging of pancreatic disease. High-quality preoperative radiological evaluation is helpful in selecting patients who are candidates for surgery, and it has reduced the proportion of patients who undergo non curative surgery for pancreatic tumors (Nordback et al. 1992). Helical CT provides excellent depiction of small vessels, high levels of parenchymal enhancement and lack of respiratory misregistration (Dupuy et al. 1992; Fishman et al. 1992), which is beneficial for the diagnosis of pancreatic tumors. In this discussion, CT features of endocrine and cystic pancreatic tumors and their differential diagnosis will be presented.
