Abstract

The aorta and its major branches are elastic-type arteries; their intima is thicker than that of the extremity arteries. The extremity arteries are of a muscular structure, characterized by a media full of muscle. Around several layers of muscle cells there is elastic and collagenous tissue (Egner et al. 1997; Wolf and Werthessen 1979).
