Abstract
Polycythemia and thrombocythemia are rare causes of microemboli and local thromboses. They have also been summarized under the term“hemorheologic diseases” (Alexander 1997). For interventional radiologists and angiologists, familiarity with the risk of spreading of thrombotic wall-adherent material, or cholesterol crystal emboli is very important. This applies to the identification of the respective clinical symptoms and their prevention in the framework of endovascular intervention. Particularly important are the so-called blue-toe syndrome’, ’cholesterol crystal embolisms’, and peripheral perfusive disorders in the presence of severe thrombocythemia and Osier’s disease.
