Abstract

The arterial vascular diseases not caused by arteriosclerosis have different known and also unknown aetiologies and occur considerably less often (Allen 1935; Fontaine 1967; Alexander 1993). The major underlying pathology is vascular changes in the smaller arteries of the lower leg, distal arms, or fingers. In 1972, Kappert described the different forms by noting the features which differentiated them from arteriosclerotic vascular diseases. Most of these vascular diseases are inflammatory in nature (angi-itis), are a component of collagenoses, (e.g., sclero-derma, lupus erythematosus) or are one of the arterial compression syndromes or vasospastic syndromes. The latter will be described in the chapter“Functional Diseases”. Ratschow, in 1959, defined some of them as angioneuropathies. In the framework of functional diseases, also the drug-induced, but also iatrogenic arteriopathies (Hess 1972) are dealt with, in as far as they play a role in radiolog-ic differential diagnosis.
