Part of the book series: Engineering Materials ((ENG.MAT.))

Abstract

Intermetallic materials are compounds formed by two or more metals in well defined integral proportions and which have a characteristic crystal structure that is ordered up to, or close to, the melting point. Intermetal- lics generally have high melting points and high resistance to deformation — this leads to the potential for high temperature capability which has motivated much of the recent work.
