Dynamic Magnetic Resonance Imaging of the Hand and Wrist

  • Chapter
Book cover Fundamentals of Hand and Wrist Imaging

Abstract

High-resolution static-view magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the wrist has proved to be an effective technique in the study of this complex area and provides information that (generally) permits differentiation among the various conditions that are responsible for wrist pain. However, insufficiency of ligamentous structures and the related subtle alteration of carpal motion are often unrecognized and frequently misdiagnosed in static-view MRI. Altered radiocarpal and intracarpal biomechanics due to ligamentous insufficiency or fractures may result in pain, instability and early degeneration.
