Abstract

In the examination of the wrist, computed tomography (CT) often reveals additional findings to the plain films, even now when magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has become an important modality for musculoskeletal imaging. The availability of systems; the speed of imaging and the possibility of providing tomographic thin slices with high resolution make CT an interesting modality for hand and wrist imaging. The good image contrast and the optimization of contrast by intra-articular injection are another advantage. Furthermore, the amount of radiation to the wrist is minimal. Therefore, it is even possible to obtain scans in different positions, i.e., to image radioulnar dislocation. This chapter reviews the techniques and applications of spiral CT in wrist pathologies.
