Abstract

This paper presents a method called the VALUEMAP™. The method provides a means of calculating THE ECONOMICAL POTENTIAL OF PRODUCT MODULARIZATION and an understanding of PRODUCT VARIETY COST. The method also provides a clear graphic representation of the company, which serves as a common foundation for COMMUNICATION between different departments, for instance R&D and marketing, which often have trouble communicating. In the method, costs driven by the product structure come into focus. Key figures such as cost per part number, cost per variant and cost per product are generated during the process.
