Zusammenfassung

Erreger ist das humane Immundefizienz-Virus (HIV), ein RNA-Virus (Retrovirus). Den Großteil des Virusgenoms bilden 3 Strukturgene: gag, pol und env. Diese werden ergänzt durch diverse Regulatorgene. Man unterscheidet 2 humanpathogene HIV-Viren: Typ I und Typ II. HIV kann aufgrund von Sequenzanalysen weiter in Subgruppen unterteilt werden: A-J (HIV-1, Gruppe M) und das entfernt verwandte HIV-O (HIV-1, Gruppe O). HIV-2 wird in die Subtypen A-E unterteilt.
