Zusammenfassung

Die gerontologische Grundlagenforschung setzt sich seit 70 Jahren zunehmend intensiver mit den Alternsprozessen vor allem auf der zellulären v. a. und molekularbiologischen Ebene auseinander. Trotzdem lassen sich die dem Alternsprozess zugrunde liegenden Vorgänge lediglich in Form von Hypothesen und Theorien fassen. Ein allgemein akzeptierter Mechanismus des Alterns ist derzeit noch nicht formulierbar.
