Zusammenfassung
Die meisten Freileitungen mit Nennspannungen von 110 kV und darüber werden heute mit Erdseilen ausgerüstet, deren Hauptzweck der Schutz der Leiter gegen direkte Blitzeinschläge ist, die zum Abschalten der Leitung führen würden (siehe Abschnitt 4). Einschläge in die Erdseile können an den Masten ein so hohes Spannungspotenzial aufbauen, dass rückwärtige Überschläge über die Isolatoren zu den Leiterseilen auftreten. Um solche Überschlage auf ein Mindestmaß zu begrenzen, ist auch eine ausreichende Erdung der Maste notwendig (siehe Abschnitt 5).
