Abstract
The overall aim of MEPOP is to quantify the regional atmospheric cycling of semivolatile species such as mercury (Hg) and persistent organic pollutants (POPs). The group “POPs” exists of a large number of compounds with different characteristics in terms of vapour pressure and reactivity. Thus, different compounds within the group POPs will behave differently in the atmosphere and also be transported over varying distances. Most of the POPs are semivolatile indicating that they can exist in both condensed (or adsorbed) and gaseous phases, in most cases depending on temperature which will influence their deposition and re-emission processes.
