Abstract

Emission inventories, highly resolved in time (usually 1 h), space (1 × 1 km or even less), and substances (individual VOC compounds) are needed as input for chemistry and transport model (CTM) simulations of photooxidant distribution. These inventories are calculated from aggregated statistical data, such as annual emissions, using complex emission models and may thus be fraught with substantial uncertainties. Since the results of the CTM simulations depends decisively on the quality of input data, the uncertainties of the highly resolved emission inventories must be well known. To assess the uncertainties of the highly resolved emissions, a joint evaluation project EVA has been designed and executed by several German institutions within the frame of Tropospheric Research Program (TFS) of the German Ministry for Education and Research.
