Zusammenfassung
Verfahren der nichtinvasiven Atmungsunterstützung haben seit Anfang der 1990er Jahre zunehmende Anwendung in der Klinik gefunden. Die Ursprünge dieser Behandlungstechniken liegen in der Therapie des obstruktiven Schlafapnoesyndroms, bei dem die nächtlichen Apnoephasen mit ihren deletären Langzeitfolgen durch Aufrechterhaltung eines positiven Atemwegdrucks im Bereich der oberen Atemwege reduziert bzw. sogar ganz vermieden werden können. Erst vergleichsweise spät wurde erkannt, dass unabhängig von der Sicherung eines freien oberen Atemwegs die Transmission des positiven Atemwegdrucks in den Thorax und die Lunge auch zur Behandlung akuter pulmonaler und kardialer Erkrankungen genutzt werden kann [9, 10].
