In der mathematischen Behandlung von Naturvorgängen treten oft Funktionen auf, die von mehreren Variablen x 1 , x n abhängen (etwa von den Ortskoordinaten x, y, z, von der Zeit t, vom Druck p,...) und deren Wertebereich mehrdimensional ist. Zur Differentialrechnung mit diesen Funktionen benötigt man die gesamte in Kap. 6 entwickelte Lineare Algebra.
