Abstract

This contribution presents the analysis of the ultraviolet and optical spectra of two typical nearby starburst galaxies. The goal is to investigate the IMF in metal-rich starbursts and the stellar population age. We found that the UV light in the inner 50 pc of NGC3049 is provided by very young (a few Myr old) clusters, in which massive (M ≥ 50M) stars formed. In contrast, no single age stellar population is able to explain the UV-Optical flux emitted from the central 300 pc of NGC7714. Young (O) and intermediate (B and A) mass stars are present in this nuclear starburst. The duration of the starburst in NGC 7714 seems to be related to the interaction timescale with its companion galaxy NGC 7715.
