Abstract
Beginning with an overview of current trends on the Austrian heating market, the future impacts of energy efficient technologies — focussing on energy efficient gas appliances — on the energy supply are analysed. For space and water heating, gas condensing boilers are considered to be the future “state of the art“ technology. Therefore gas condensing boilers are compared to other heating technologies which are relevant for the Austrian heating market. In the cooking sector natural gas-fuelled cookers are compared to electric ones. The comparisons of the different technologies are based on energy efficiency and emissions and are carried out by using the TEMIS Model1 , taking into account the different supply structures (mix of thermal, hydro and imports) in Austria depending on the season.
