Zusammenfassung
Im Zuge der Internationalisierung der deutschen Wirtschaft ist die Zahl der Mitarbeiter, die für ihre Unternehmen zeitlich befristet im Ausland tätig sind, kont inuierlich gestiegen. Zwar liegen keine genauen Angaben über die von deutschen Firmen an ausländische Standorte entsandten Fach- und Führungskräfte vor,doch wird geschätzt, daß allein im europäischen Ausland ca. 80.000 deutsche Mitarbeiter mit einem befristeten Arbeitsvertrag tätig sind — und das mit zunehmender Tendenz (Kühlmann, 1995, S. 1). Ein besonderer Stellenwert kommt der Auslandsentsendung von Führungskräften zu, da diese zentrale Aufgaben bei der Steuerung der internationalen Unternehmensaktivitäten wahrnehmen und in den Auslandsgesellschaften kostenintensive Schlüsselpositionen einnehmen. Zu den wichtigsten Zielen, die mit Führungskräftetransfers ins Ausland verfolgt werden, gehören die Besetzung von Leitungspositionen, die Sicherstellung einer einheitlichen Unternehmenspolitik, der Transfer von Management-Know-how sowie die Verbesserung der Kommunikation vom und zum Stammhaus (z. B. Edström/Galbraith, 1977; Pausenberger/Noelle, 1977; Wirth, 1992). Mit der steigenden Zahl von internationalen Firmenzusammenschlüssen und -übernahmen gewinnt darüber hinaus das Ziel der Integration von (Unternehmens-)Kulturen durch Führungskräftetransfers zunehmend an Bedeutung (z. B. Cartwright/Cooper, 1996; Forstmann, 1998; Shrivastava, 1986).
