Abstract
Special attention should be given to the type and nature of the skin covering the nose. The thickest skin on the nose is located in the regions of the tip and alae regions. Nasal skin thickness varies with age, ethnic and racial characteristics, and sebaceous activity. Increased thickness of nasal skin is due predominantly to an increase in the size and number of sebaceous glands and skin appendages. Characteristics of thick nasal skin include an absence of tip definition and alar cartilage highlights, lack of definition of supporting skeletal structures, and a thick appearance with prominent pores or sebaceous glands. Reduced contractility of the skin is present.
