Zusammenfassung
Die medizinische Applikation von Röntgenstrahlung am Patienten erfolgt entweder im Rahmen der Röntgendiagnostik oder der Strahlentherapie. Die diagnostische Indikation erlaubt die nichtinvasive „Durchleuchtung“ des Patienten mit Röntgenstrahlen zur Abklärung lokaler anatomischer Defekte, während die therapeutische Indikation darauf zielt, bereits identifizierte maligne Gewebe zu entfernen oder in ihrem Wachstum einzuschränken. Obwohl die Aufgabenstellung dieser beiden Anwendungen elektromagnetischer Strahlung höchst unterschiedlich ist, basieren die Röntgendiagnostik als auch die Strahlentherapie auf demselben physikalischen Prinzip, der Absorption von Photonen im Gewebe des Patienten. Ziel dieses Beitrags ist die Darstellung der physikalischen Wechselwirkung von Photonen in Materie im Hinblick auf ihre Anwendung in Diagnostik und Therapie.
