Zusammenfassung
Die Haut ist das Organ, das dem Altern am sichtbarsten unterworfen ist, wobei zahlreiche endogene oder exogene Faktoren die natürlichen Alterungsvorgänge beschleunigen können. Sind endogene Faktoren ausschlaggebend, spricht man von endogenem, biologischem Altern oder von einer Zeitalterung, bei exogenen Faktoren hingegen von exogenem Altern oder „Umweltaltern” Aufgrund der herausragenden Rolle des Lichtes für das Altern der Haut wird der Begriff der Lichtalterung („photoaging”) in der klinischen Praxis häufig synonym zur Umweltalterung verwendet. Man kann davon ausgehen, dass mindestens 90 % des Umweltalterns der Haut durch Licht verursacht wird.
