Zusammenfassung
Mindestens 40 Millionen Menschen sind weltweit bereits Mitglied einer e-community (Giesen; 2000). Laut der ARD/ZDF-Online-Studie 2000 nutzen 24% der deutschen Internetnutzer mindestens einmal wöchentlich Gesprächsforen, Newsgroups oder Chats. Weitere sieben Prozent beteiligen sich an Multi-user-Spielen (van Eimeren & Gerhard, 2000). Was fasziniert Menschen an diesen e-communities, an virtuellen Gemeinschaften? Was genau verbirgt sich hinter diesem Begriff? Handelt es sich dabei tatsächlich um Gemeinschaften, d.h. existiert eine Bindung an das entsprechende Online-Forum?
