Ein lebensspannenpsychologischer Ansatz der Alterspsychotherapie

Zusammenfassung

Frühe Ansätze der Psychotherapie neigten dazu, sich auf die Altersgruppe von jungen bis mittelalten Erwachsenen zu konzentrieren. Sie gingen davon aus, dass wichtige psychologische Prozesse ihre Wurzeln in der Kindheitsentwicklung und in der Ursprungsfamilie hätten. In der Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts erweiterte Erik Erikson (1963) diese Sichtweise, indem er 8 Phasen der Entwicklung vorschlug, die von der Säuglingszeit bis ins hohe Alter reichten. Obwohl sich Erikson während eines großen Teils seiner beruflichen Entwicklung auf die Entwicklungsphasen des Jugendalters und des jungen Erwachsenen konzentrierte, schrieb er, als er selbst älter wurde, mehr über die späte Lebensphase (z.B. Erikson et al. 1986). Er stellte auch Spekulationen über das Vorhandensein einer 9. Phase an, Was er damit begründete, dass es immer mehr Menschen im Alter über 80 gibt. Er adaptiert damit sein ursprüngliches Modell, in dem die 8. Phase eher mit dem „jungen Alter“ (60 bis vielleicht Mitte 70) zusammenhing als mit dem hohem Alter (75 — 80 und älter).
