Zusammenfassung
Zur Beeinflussung von Funktionsfähigkeit, Verhalten und Wohlbefinden werden psychologische Ansätze in der Behandlung von Demenzen seit mindestens 40 Jahren angewandt und erforscht. Viele Jahre kreativer Innovation und Anwendung haben zu einer Vielzahl von Behandlungsansätzen geführt, doch besteht auf diesem Gebiet weiterhin ein Mangel an qualitativ guter Forschung. So gibt es zwar Anhaltspunkte dafür, dass diese Behandlungsform eine ähnlich große Wirkung wie einige der antidemenziell wirkenden Medikamente der ersten Generation wie z.B. Tacrin aufweist, jedoch beruhen die Erkenntnisse über die medikamentösen Effekte auf einer deutlich größeren empirischen Basis Orrell u. Woods 1996.
