Abstract
The anal canal is the most extreme segment of the digestive tract and extends proximaliy from the anal margin (which is covered by epidermis) to the rectal mucosa. Since the anal canal is almost entirely covered by squamous epithelium, neoplasms arising in this segment are usually keratinizing or non-keratinizing squamous cell carcinomas, whose biology and clinical features are rather similar.
