Abstract
At the North German Biometrical Centre 50 million data records of medicine prescribed in charge of the health insurance determined by law (“Gesetzliche Krankenversicherung GKV”) were analysed (data with respect to paragraph 300 SGB V, only prescriptions taking place outside hospitals were considered, time of data collection: 1998–1999). In contrast to the health report of Germany which is based on a small sample, our data include nearly all prescribed medicines of certain regions (for GKV patients). Besides the scientific point of view one has to know that there are demands and restrictions by law.
