Maßgeblich ist die WHO-Klassifikation 2000 der Tumoren des Verdauungstrakts (Hamilton u. Aaltonen 2000). Zusätzlich wurden die WHO-Klassifikation 1990 (Watanabe et al. 1990) der Ösophagustumoren und der entsprechende Band des AFIP-Atlas (Lewin u. Appelman 1996) berücksichtigt.
