Abstract
In 1930, Moore first used brachytherapy to preserve vision for a monocular patient with uveal melanoma (Finger 1997a). He implanted radon seeds directly into the uveal melanoma. Stallard tried this technique, but went on to develop cobalt-60 (60Co) plaque radiotherapy (Finger 1997a). Since that time there have been multiple phase-I clinical trials describing the use of a variety of brachytherapy sources [primarily ruthenium-106 (106Ru), iodine-125 (125I),iridium-192 (192Ir),and palladium-103 (103Pd)] for eye plaques (Finger 1997a).
